China’s LeTV To Compete on Electric Car Front with Eyes On Tesla. LeTV, the No. 1 streaming TV service in China, much like Netflix, is developing an electric car to take on Tesla Motors.
They’ve hired 600 people, including 200 stationed in the U.S. This includes people they have hired from Tesla, BMW, and GM that are familiar with the electric car industry.
LeTv’s founder and billionaire CEO Jia Yueting in early 2014, set his sights on Tesla, announcing that LeTV will release an electric car of their own.
Just this week, the company released the first concept sketches of their upcoming electric car, named: Le* Supercar.
The Le* Supercar project, is being led by Tony Nie, a former founding member of Lotus China team. The original Tesla Roadster was built on a Lotus frame.
Another similarity to Tesla, the Le*Supercar will have few analog controls. Instead relying on a digital interface using a version of the Android-based operating system from LeTV’s televisions and smartphones.
The electric car will debut at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show with the intent to bring it to market two and a half years from now.
